Phuket is Thailand's biggest and most developed island, with international flights, hospitals, malls, and beaches that range from packed party strips to quiet northern coves. It's the convenient, amenity-rich choice, with a large expat community and everything from rowdy Patong nightlife to upscale family enclaves. The tradeoffs are tourist crowds, traffic, higher prices than the mainland, and a reputation for being overdeveloped in places. Best for people who want island living with full infrastructure and a ready-made social scene.
