Big-island energy — beach clubs by day, neon Bangla Road by night.
Phuket is Thailand's biggest and most developed island, with international flights, hospitals, malls, and beaches that range from packed party strips to quiet northern coves. It's the convenient, amenity-rich choice, with a large expat community and everything from rowdy Patong nightlife to upscale family enclaves. The tradeoffs are tourist crowds, traffic, higher prices than the mainland, and a reputation for being overdeveloped in places. Best for people who want island living with full infrastructure and a ready-made social scene.

A large, varied expat community plus mass tourism, from party crowds in Patong to families and remote workers in the quieter north. Easy to meet people given the size of the foreign community, with nightlife and co-workings both well established.
